Showgirl

Mark Says:This shot is an excellent idea for the theme this month. The red colour is certainly in keeping. It would have been excellent if it was just a bit brighter and the foot had been in the frame – but this sort of shot is very difficult to take with all the movement etc.

Steamy Says: No doubt about the dominant colour and a picture full of vigour. Suffers from the background and perhaps would have benefited from the whole of the girl in the frame.

Hibiscus

Mark Says: Good close up of the flower. The yellow stamen could have done with being a little more saturated, but non the less a good effort.

Steamy Says: Good colourful sharp picture with contrasting background. I like the shadow on the bottom left hand petal.

Yellow Racer

Mark Says: This is one of mine – just wish there was a little more space at the front – and the trucks in the background are distracting.

Steamy Says: Colour ,focus and exposure are bob on, but I find the trucks a little distracting. Good shot to capture a moving image.

Tulip

Mark Says: Another bright red flower! This time the yellow stamen are much better, however, I would have preferred it if the flower was turned in the frame slightly so that the flower is more symmetrical.

Steamy Says: Vibrant contrasting colours. Not quite sure about the focus. Neutral background gives impact to the subject.

Sea of Daffodils

Mark Says: An interesting view point of the daffodils. The one head is a little central and I don’t like the house positioned where it is – it pulls the eye off the focal point too much.
Nicely exposed though.

Steamy Says: Nice treatment of the subject and definitely the dominant colour over 75% of the frame. Quite effective.

Clematis

Mark Says: I like the diagonal composition of this shot. Though it could do with being a bit brighter.

Steamy Says: Good focus and colour filling the frame. Background does not intrude. I like this one.

Iris

Mark Says: Another flower – I can see a common idea here! Very well taken, very sharp with the background nicely blurred. However, as I guess the photographer had plenty of time for the shot, it would have been possible to move the one bud out of frame as it does pull the eye a bit.

Steamy Says: For me this is good, well detailed and effective use of blurred background emphasises the dominant colour.

Sunrise Excavation

Mark Says: I like this shot a lot. The colour is excellent and is very well composed. The diggers both facing the same way must have been luck – but it works because of it, with the reflections of the sun defining the shapes perfectly.
Should do very well.

Steamy Says: An unusual subject given an effective treatment. Particularly like the frost covered railings. An imaginative photograph. Well done.

DJ Wally

Mark Says: This is one of mine. This was taken at Si and Chell’s son, Dylan’s birthday Party. It was one of several shots into the lights and this worked the best.

Steamy Says: Well shot and very effective. A bit surreal and a good effort.

Fire Fighting Equipment

Mark Says: I like this shot – tells the whole story in one shot. And its Red! Very good. Like it.

Steamy Says: A picture full of interest. Well seen and shot. A bit distracted by the notice on the left hand side ….but even so, good composition.

Roman

Mark Says: I like this shot too. The lighting is very good, with lots of detail in the figure. I think a bit more black at the bottom would have balanced it a little bit better.

Steamy Says: A well seen innovative photograph. Good stone texture, but not sure about the light area on the upper part of the figure. Can’t make my mind up here.

Embroided Butterfly

Mark Says: A nice record shot of the embroidery. Very well taken, but the lighting is a little flat.

Steamy Says: Cannot comment …. One of mine

Burning Bush

Mark Says: I can’t work out why I like this shot. It just seems to work. There are things wrong with it – the top right is a little blown out and the green top left looks a little odd – but for all that I like it.

Steamy Says: Very good impact, but not sure if the light overpowers things, but still extremely effective.

Leafy Avenue

Mark Says: I’m going to guess that the lens didn’t have a hood attached – the flare coming in from the left hand side is a bit distracting. It would have been nice to have retained the sky as well, either by multiply exposures or by processing the RAW file and blending them together. Or just by recovering the highlights.

Steamy Says: Good idea , but afraid it does not do much for me. I find my eye drawn first to the light source on the left and would have liked people closer to the photographer. Good perspective though.

Wet Strawb

Mark Says: Quite well taken shot of the strawberry – with just a couple of highlights spoiling it for me.

Steamy Says: Dominant colour par excellence, … Very creative ….. not sure I will ever eat a stawb again!!! But I rather like this one.

Lyme Park

Mark Says: I’m not 100% sure what the dominant colour is in this shot. But as a picture goes, its quite pleasant, with the building providing a focal point.

Steamy Says: This I really like. It has a haunting eerie quality. Who would spend a night alone in that house?. Love the lone figure. Good depth on the right. Well composed. Excellent.

Snow on Mam Tor

Mark Says: Another shot that I like. Only real criticism is the foreground isn’t sharp enough to provide a stable platform for the picture. Its well composed apart from that with good diagonals taking the eye into the picture.
Good effort.

Steamy Says: No comment … my second.

Silver

Mark Says: This looks like the foot of a bowl – and a very nice foot it is too. The side lighting is really bringing out the texture of the squirrel.
Should do well.

Steamy Says: This I also like a lot. A well executed imaginative shot with impact and avoiding glare from the metallic colour. Good effort.

Blue

Mark Says: A well composed landscape, with a beautiful deep blue sky.

Steamy Says: Exposure, colour and focus are spot on, but I find it a bit disappointing and I cannot quite work out why, but blue certainly is the dominant colour.

White Dove

Mark Says: The dove is well exposed and not blown out at all. It’s a little central in the frame though.

Steamy Says: A well taken bird portrait enhanced by an interesting background, with which it forms a good contrast..

Blue Flight

Mark Says: This shot has little about it apart from the colour. I’m not 100% sure the sea is level – but could be wrong. The bird is well positioned, but a little small.

Steamy Says: I rather like this. Why is it that uncluttered images can be so effective?. Great use of sense of emptiness here with a dominant focal point as well as colour.

Red Bike

Mark Says: This shot is a little too cropped for me – no room in front of the bike giving no real sense of movement. Also the two heads in the background are just in the way. With the one hand off the handlebars, there is no sense of being on the edge.
Its red though!

Steamy Says: Wonderful shot captured at speed. Shame about the two distracting blokes behind the rider, but good anyway.
