Don't forget, you can still vote even if you didn't enter the competition.

Amarylis

Rovi says

One of mine

Well composed with the stems leading the eye to the pollen heads. Has an ethereal quality to it and the pollen heads give a good contrast against the paleness of the image.

Australian Beetle

Rovi says

Never seen one of these before, an interesting and colourful subject. Maybe cropped a little tight?

Wow, you can certainly see it coming. I feel that it is a little cramped in the image, but it certainly carries impact

Catkins

Rovi says

A nice shot of catkins to remind us that spring is coming, soon I hope. For this shot to have real impact the catkins need to be isolated from the jumble of background branches. These catkins photographed against a non-distracting background with maybe some pollen falling from them, I’m beginning to ramble, but there is a cracking shot in there to had.

The background rather diminishes the impact of this image. A blurred background would make the catkins stand out better, and perhaps taken a little closer to the subject.  Good colour and exposure however.

Cool Fly

Rovi says

Not many flies around in those conditions so well spotted. Nice detail and unusual conditions have added interest to this.

One of mine. Got his seasons mixed up  -- poor little soul

Eye Can See You

Rovi says

Too close for comfort for me. Why do the ladies to this to their eyes?

Excellent image of the human eye, even down to the blood vessels. Well taken with good colour and exposure. Has impact. A possible contender.

Flash Drive

Rovi says

An image of a flash drive, sorry I can’t find much of interest in this.

An interesting idea, but does not really do it for me I am afraid. Well taken though. A close up of the green circuit board on its own might have worked better.

Frozen Heather

Rovi says

This is a reminder that winter is not too far away still. Nice diffused background and patterns in the ice. A good effort on what was probably a very cold and dull day

My first theme shot. Just dead heather on Kinder covered in windblown ice shards

Glasswing

Rovi says

An unusual butterfly nicely framed. The focus is on the head, but sadly the angle of the subject hasn’t allow the DoF the keep all of the lovely wing sharp, a great shame as the wing is the most beautiful part of the image. Butterflies can be the most uncooperative subjects.

Good macro of the insect. Softish focus works ok and the colour is excellent.. For me though the red flower tends to compete with the subject and draws the eye away somewhat.

Iris Sibirica

Rovi says

A beautiful iris well exposed and focused. If only it was isolated from the messy background it would have so much more impact.

Nicely taken shot with good colour and impact against the background. Exposure ok. Would like to have seen all of the leaf on the top edge, but only a minor point.

Leafy Water Drops

Rovi says

Almost a great image. A slight shift in the point of focus would have prevented the foreground leaf edge and small water drops being blurred and the back edge of the leaf being fairly sharp. This produced for me some visual disturbance. A very good effort and an image I really like.

Nicely composed with the focused and unfocused areas working together. Again good colour and exposure, with reflections in the large droplet.

Mirror Mirror On the Wall

Rovi says

An attention grabbing image. Beautiful colours and patterns enhanced by the black background.

Lovely image, with colour ,focus and exposure spot on. The black background works and gives the subject impact. Imaginatively done. Could do well.

Mushroom for Dinner

Rovi says

Focus, Exposure and framing all good. A nice macro shot.

What strange creatures insects are! Face and front legs are nicely in focus and it dose have some impact. For me the background is a little startling and detracts somewhat.

Snowdrop

Rovi says

A lovely simple image with no distractions, works for me every time. Well worth a frame this one.

Well taken ,very competent image of the hardiest of plants. Well presented and could do well.

Tree Nymph

Rovi says

A nicely posed butterfly always makes a good image. There is just enough detail in the background to let on this was taken in a butterfly house and not in the rain forest. Sorry if I’m wrong.

Good effective image with spot on colour and exposure. For me the green leaves do compete with the subject a little especially at the bottom left hand corner.

Washing Up

Rovi says

One of mine, what I spend most of my time doing, or so it seems.

I rather like this. An unusual inventive subject for a macro shot. Well taken with good exposure. However a bit let down by the flowers?in the bottom right hand corner

Who Landed on My House

Well spotted opportunity for an interesting photograph. The fly is nicely in focus. Perhaps a little tight in the frame at the bottom edge

Zero

; Rovi says

Well what is it? I don’t know. Pictorially not much to hold interest. Over my head this one.

Another inventive take on the theme. Has some impact and the blurring does make the 0 stand out.
