A snowy surprise view |
Rovi says- Only the hardy or foolish would be in such a place, so early and cold, or a photographer of course. This early bird has caught a great scene, well worth the effort. The sky is very attractive, I would be happy to see more of it. |
A nicely taken image conveying the sense of early morning cold and desolation. Good foreground giving scale and good depth of field. Good colour. |

Carousel |
Rovi says- A colourful ‘All the fun of the fair’ shot. A visually interesting composition. Well done. |
Another technically competent shot. Good colour and focus. Conveys sense of movement. Well taken |

Chaffinch on one leg |
Rovi says- A handsome bird very well captured. Focus spot on with eye sharpest ensuring contact with the viewer. |
Looks as if he is wearing some cool shades. Good opportunist shot. Not too sure about the focus on this one but a well taken image none the less. |

Derelict barn |
Rovi says- These old buildings are a treasure trove of photo opportunities both as a whole and close up sections. Wish it was in my locality. This image works well as a mono and I suspect it is very good in colour as well. |
Regret that this shot does not really do it for me, but good contrasts and exposure and focus. Does make me wonder what might be in there and what the notice on the door says. |

E-Type |
Rovi says- A interesting approach just keeping the front quarter in focus and still having an instantly recognisable E-Type. That’s an idea to ‘borrow’ in the future. This treatment has lifted the image from a record shot to a higher level. Well done. |
Inventive shot which does give the presumably desired impression of speed..Losing the right hand headlight does not seem to affect the image. Am I correct in the assumption that this is a model vehicle? |

Easy Work |
Rovi says- Loads of atmosphere and action. I can almost smell and hear the engine. A bit grainy and maybe not fully sharp; it matters not, it helps the mood of the image. |
One of mine. Two LMS Black Fives making light work of the stiff climb up to Buxton. The noise was magnificent. Was stood next to Offers on a windswept hillside with around 30 other togs. What a happy band !! |

Grass seed head |
Rovi says- One of mine |
I really like this. Well lit and the black background adds to the impact. Well composed in the frame, with good focus and exposure. Probably my favourite in the Open this month |

On golden pond |
Rovi says- Beautiful colours and ripples, but I am left feeling that the shutter open a little late and the bird had flown. |
An interesting and inventive shot, which almost has an abstract feel to it. The ripple effect makes the shot really. Technically competent with good colour and exposure. There is a black spot which could nave been edited out. |

Overlooking the mountains |
Rovi says- A nice shot of the Land rover which is placed nicely in the frame. As a non 'Top Gear’ sort of chap I’m afraid that when it’s a competition between a land rover and a beautiful mountain scenery the mountains win. I’m sure there are some prize winning shots of those mountains to come. |
Definitely gives a sense of desolation and remoteness. Good depth of field. Perhaops a touch more saturation?. |

Pier at night |
Rovi says- Perfect timing taking this shot with still enough light in the sky. An attractive warm image which would be improved with a little less of the dull car park foreground. |
Nice crisp shot taken at probably the optimum time for the light and colours. St Anne’s pier so a bit refined. Would moving a little to the right or a touch further back have got all the pier frontage in ? Good exposure and perhaps a little more sky above the building. A good effort. |

Pochard |
Rovi says- Good detail in the feathers and water droplets together with the attractive eye colour help to make the subject stand out. I feel that a crop from the top and right hand side would place the subject more dynamically within the frame |
The subject is well sited in the frame. Good exposure and colour. The black diagonal line in the top right hand corner drags the eye a little. Like the water running from the beak. |

Red gear |
Rovi says- One of mine |
A simple but effective image. Well taken with good focus and exposure . |

Salisbury plains |
Rovi says- I’m afraid I looked in vain to find something to interest me in this shot, but failed. I’m sorry I may be missing the point but I only see a record of what was in front of the camera. |
Regret that this image is not one for me I am afraid. Nice shot of a Landrover doing its stuff and a technically competent image. |

Starling in snow |
Rovi says- The classic exposure trap of a dark subject on a light background. No problem here with the exposure handled well. Well done. |
Poor little devil - looks a bit nowty and completely frozen. Good shot, nicely positioned and stands out well. Good exposure and focus on a difficult background. |

Sunset at tutbury castle |
Rovi says- Great warm sunset colours and a nice silhouette. |
Good shot well captured with a dusky feel to it and good colour. It has a sense of depth of field and the figure? gives it some scale |

The Pyranees |
Rovi says- An all action shot well caught, would not be out of place in a glossy Landrover brochure. |
A well taken shot with definite impact largely created by the great splash effect. |

The railwaymans cottage |
Rovi says- An atmospheric timeless image that would also look good in sepia. |
Not too sure about this one – an imaginative treatment but does not seem to work for me. Seems a little unbalanced somehow, but again a technically competent shot. |

Waht big teeth you have |
Rovi says- One of mine. |
Strewth, -- no wonder antelopes don’ stand a chance. A great opportunist shot. Well taken with spot on focus, exposure and colour. An excellent shot which should do well |

When it was warm |
Rovi says- A tranquil tropical scene probably taken early morning before the Germans claimed all the sunbeds. A pleasant scene to reminisce in December. |
Regret that it does not do a lot for me, but the reflections in the pool are ace.Feel the sky lets in down a bit, but exposure and saturation levels are good. |
