| Snoozy
Pooch |
| Di says : Here’s a dog that’s trying to sleep whilst keeping its head up…. and we all know that it just aint going to happen. The colours are good, and the exposure is nice – considering that the dogs head is in the sunshine. The line of shadow has been well dealt with, and is not too intrusive on the shot. All in all a good dog portrait. |
| Flick says : One of our dogs so no comment |
| Days
Gone |
| Di says : Good action shot of the great horse in action. The feet are being picked up well and the wispy mane is blowing in the breeze. I like the way the whip is being blown about too. Good exposure – but it would have been nice to have seen the background just a little more blurred, which would have set the foreground shot off to perfection. I would also have liked to have seen a little more space to the left of the horse – to give it somewhere to go. |
| Flick says : Taken at Driffield Agricultural Show by my hubby so no comment |
| Viewed
through drops |
| Di says : It’s a fascinating abstract shot – with a great depth of colour. I’m not sure what the coloured beads are, nor am I sure how the shot was achieved – but it really doesn’t matter. I’ve enjoyed looking at it and wondering. I would have liked to have seen the beading a little sharper, but other than that it’s a great image. |
| Flick says : An excellent idea, a very colourful photo. I am presuming that the balloons are supposed to be in focus (which sadly they aren't) but its a good photo with plenty of visual impact. Good bright colours that certainly leave an impact. |
| Fun
with a shoe horn |
| Di says : Another wonderfully colourful abstract image. I can’t decide whether this is pure photoshop or water in a wind tunnel…… The colours are great, and it’s an image I could spend some time looking at. It’s lovely focus on the water droplets, but what I really want to know, is - where is the shoe horn? |
| Flick says : Again an excellent photo, very abstract. A photo with a great difference that certainly made me smile. |
| Untitled |
| Di says : Great portrait of this boat – lovely exposure for both sea and sky with no loss of detail on the rigging. A peaceful scene with the boat set nicely on thirds – a nice straight horizon with a good fence line for foreground. Great shot. |
| Flick says : An excellent picture that shows everything clearly, lovely sky and water. Nicely exposed. |
| Tied
up |
| Di says : Another good boat shot – exposure good, and lots of detail. Two elements I’m not sure about here – one is the car to the left of the first boat (I think I might have tried to clone this out), and the second is the beach bottom left. I don’t think it adds anything to the shot, and I would have cloned it out, or cropped the shot a little more. Picturesque shot though. |
| Flick says : Another nice photo, exposed nicely, with a good sky. The land at the front of the photo is a little distracting as is the car behind the boat. All in-all a good picture. |
| Brecon
Waterfall |
| Di says : What wonderful colours. Looks very autumnal – the only change I would have made to this – is to have given it a slightly longer shutter speed to make the water look more flowing. As it is the water is fading away towards the bottom of the waterfall – other than that – great landscape. Good to see it in portrait format. |
| Flick says : A nice clear photo, sharp and in focus. Unfortunatley the water seems to fade towards the bottom of the falls but it is a really strong, bold shot |
| Working
Hard |
| Di says : This was a good idea that didn’t quite come off for me. The shot looks a little over exposed, and the focus is just off enough to make it hard to look at in any detail. Also, because there are three insects on the flower, I’m not sure which to look at first. It’s all a bit too fussy. Colours are great though, great contrast between the purple and the greenery. |
| Flick says : A close-up of a strong, vibrant flower. Colours are great but the 'insects' do not look to me to be in focus. It is a pity the flower is in the shade. |
| Foliage |
| Di says : Does what it says on the tin…… it’s a shot that shows depth of field excellently but I have no real point of focus to look at. The Hawthorne bush is perfect, but is it an interesting point? I’m not sure. The plant in the immediate foreground is too blurry, I would have liked to have seen what it was. Love the background though – lovely muted colours against the vibrant greens of the foreground. Great contrast. |
| Flick says : Mine, No comment! |
| The
Fleets in |
| Di says : Now this shot is more like it….. great colours, focus and exposure. Lots to look at and I want to know how you get boats on two levels like that. The horizon is spot on too – very important in a shot like this. I hate to see the water running off the end of a photo. |
| Flick says : Mine, No comment! |
| Water
Pipe |
| Di says : It’s a good shot of a hose pipe – nice to see something taken from a different point of view. In this case, the photographer must have been almost lying down in the grass to get the shot. Great focus, and balance of colour – showing a good depth of field. Good idea and an original photograph. |
| Flick says : Unusual photo, unfortunatley the focus seems to be on the mound of grass towards the front rather than the pipe. A good photo with bold colours. |
| Beastie
on a flower part 2 |
| Di says : This is an excellent shot of a ‘beastie’ – you can almost hear the hum. And the exposure on the flower is excellent too. As we all know – pale colours are difficult to photograph, and to get this right, and the insect too shows skill. The water droplets in the background add interest to the shot, and the final background, blurry leaves and stems set the pale colour of the flower off well. An excellent shot that should do well this month. |
| Flick says : This is a good photo with the focal point (the insect) is clear and sharp but the colours of the flower are weak and the petals, especially the top petals, are not quite in focus. |
| Sailing |
| Di says : Beautiful shot of a sailing ship. Great exposure and balance. Enough foreground for interest too. I might have tried to leave a little more sky above the top mast – but all in all and excellent shot. |
| Flick says : A nice, clear photo which was taken just in time so as not to lose the front of the yacht, the rocks in front are slightly distracting but the depth of field is really good. |
| Neck
Point |
| Di says : Another excellent landscape. Looks like a shot from a holiday brochure – Excellent use of diagonals leading the eye into the shot. The horizon set on thirds – makes this pleasing to the eye. Great colours. Great shot. |
| Flick says : A nice landscape shot with a lovely sky and gorgeous sea. The light on this photo is very good and everything is nice and clear. |
| A
Day out in Elie |
| Di says : I’m not sure where Elie is – but is looks beautiful. Lovely colours – and the use of a diagonal leads the eye into the shot. The perspective helps, and the focus is spot on. Well done. |
| Flick says : A nice clear photo with good strong colours. The angle the photo has been taken at adds impact to the photo and I really like it. |
| St
Monans windmill |
| Di says : More landscape here, but this time the eye is led to the building via the steps up the hillside. Composed well using the rule of thirds – it’s a lovely shot with a great sky behind it. |
| Flick says : Beautiful clear photo, nice and sharp and nicely in focus. The steps leading up to the windmill lead the eye to the main subject of the photo and the whole picture is well composed. |
| Picture
Perfect |
| Di says : My first entry, and I’ll only say that it was taken because it looked like the photographer was standing on a stage taking a photo of a painted scene. The view however was real……. |
| Flick says : An excellent photo of a beautiful view. The photo is composed well but I would have liked to see more of the view (but that is because I liked it so much) |
| Waterfall |
| Di says : My second entry – taken at Monsal Dale – I tried to get the real feel of the water…… |
| Flick says
: A superb photo, clear and sharp. Photographing a waterfall is so difficult and this seems to be done very well. The photo also benefits from being taken in portrait view. |
| Windsor
Wheel |
| Di says : I didn’t know there was another big wheel at Windsor – you live and learn. I like this because it’s been taken from a more unusual angle. You have that great sky behind it too. Good focus, great use of creative photography. |
| Flick says
: A great shot taken from an unusual angle. A fantastic sky creates a beautiful background. |
| The
Long Walk |
| Di says : And it certainly is a long walk back to the castle. I would have liked to have seen this a little bigger, because I’m not sure of the focus through the shot. I also think I might have cropped it a little tighter, to remove the first shadow of tree, which I find distracting from the rest of the shot. The crop would also have set the castle on a third, because at the moment it’s right in the centre of the picture. Good use of colour though. |
| Flick says : The idea of this photo is good with a long, straight road but where to? The building is so far away. The trees on the left are unfortunatley in the shade and the trees on the right are too bright. A nice try though. |
| The
Butcher, the Baker, the ........... |
| Di says : Excellent working shot taken in a candle factory I assume – given the rhyme…. I wonder if this was hand held – or if a tripod was used. I’ve not looked at the EXIF information for this shot – but the focus is good for low light. The man has good skin tones, so the colour balance is correct. I like the effect of movement as the candles are removed from the wax. Good shot – with the candle wicks hanging in the background, ready to be made up… |
| Flick says : A good photo, but the flash seems to have over-exposed the man and dulled the background. It is an interesting idea though! |
| The
Cyclist |
| Di says : Good shot that could have been made even better, if we had had some sense of speed. I think perhaps a little more background blurr, (and that would have obscured the vehicle number plate too) would have helped. Perhaps a little blurr on the wheels too. Great colour, and nice to see the muscle on his legs working hard……….nice to see some space for him to cycle into as well. Good shot. |
| Flick says : This is a good pic, but I would have liked to see a little more movement. The cyclist is clear and sharp and the photo has not been cropped to closely. |
