Pumpkin Smile
Mark says: Very topical shot of the pumpkin. A little too tightly cropped and I’m not sure what is at the bottom left of the frame. The rest of the background is nice and black to both isolate and enhance the colour of the subject.
Chell says: Nice bright image, clear, would have maybe tried to clone out the items in the bottom left hand corner, otherwise a nice festive shot!

NT Flowers
Mark says: Very colourful shot with plenty of “pop”, but I don’t think it has a proper focal point for the eye to return to. I think I would have liked less depth of field to isolate the front row of pink flowers and preferably just the large one just about sat on the left hand intersecting thirds.
Good effort.
Chell says: Lovely colourful picture, lots of variety, the back few flowers are a little blown out, and there is a gap in the middle which is a little distracting, lovely summery garden!

The Green
Mark says: The focus on this one appears to be the sign and not the flowers beneath – unless the flowers moved a fair bit as the depth of field is quite deep. Its very central in the frame.
Chell says: It is indeed green, the grass that it, was that its natural colour? The greenness of the grass takes the emphasis off the colouring of the flowers but a clear crisp shot, well done

Vibrant Shades
Mark says: The composition of this shot is spot on. The flowers sitting on the bottom third with space for the eye to roam around. Its unfortunate that the house is in the background as it spoils the otherwise good shot. It might have been possible to get lower and use the sky as the background, preferably dark blue.
Chell says: Nice bright red flowers, sharp and clear, the background lets this shot down but fits in well with the theme this month,

Red Tree - THIRD
Mark says: The first shot to use a frame, and doesn’t it make a huge difference! Well worth the minute or so to produce in Photoshop or equivalent.
Looks like a little de-saturation has been done in post to enhance the tree, which has worked well in this case. The composition, with the tree on the thirds is very good.
Good effort.
Chell says: Cant make up my mind about this shot, it is a little too washed out, maybe would have been better with a mix of autumn coloured trees then the red tree as the focal point? A good idea tho…….

Autumn Colour
Mark says: This shot needs a focal point, be it a cone or something just to anchor the eye to.
Chell says: A nice clear, crisp shot, shows the colour of autumn however a few different colour leaves added in would have perhaps made this a little more interesting, is that a conker I see at the bottom?

Autumn Leaves - SECOND
Mark says: Good shot of the leaves, that are well isolated from the otherwise busy background. Good colour and exposure.
I like it.
Chell says: I do like the different tones to the leaves, it does show the change from summer to autumn, nice clear image, the detail on the leaves is captured well.

Oak Leaves
Mark says: Another autumnal theme to this image. Again the background is nicely blurred to isolate the leaves. The one leaf, upper left is in sharp focus and is sat in the perfect position, the other leaves providing interest for the eye to look at on the way around the shot.
Chell says: Lovely crisp autumn picture, a couple of things spoil this one for me tho, the blurred leaf to the bottom left hand side is a little distracting, and the white markings on the one leaf, I would of maybe tried to clone these out but with so much fine detail on the leaves this may not have been possible to do, I love the way the veins on the leaves really stand out!

Autumn
Mark says: This is one of mine. I slightly de-saturated the greens and blues and saturated the reds. I like the diagonal line through the image, but would have liked the berries farther up the frame.
Chell says: Holly, lovely red berries, reminds me that Christmas is getting near! I find the background a little distracting on this image but the holly is clear and sharp.

Hibiscus
Mark says: A very bright shot of the flower. I would have liked to have seen the yellow pollen a bit more saturated as it is the part of the flower that I keep returning to.
Chell says: Lovely bright image, the detail of the centre of the flower is very well captured, can’t really fault this picture.

Drum Major,Irish Guards in full ceremonial dress
Mark says: A difficult shot to make work due to the crowds in the background. Its not been totally successful as the background has not been rendered out of focus.
The Guard though has been well taken and nicely captured in mid stride.
Chell says: Colourful, detail is sharp, foot appears to be a little out of focus but a very good image of a moving subject.

Tub of Sunshine
Mark says: I like the sun light coming in from behind left, as it gives the tub in particular some shape and definition. The depth of field is a little too long as it would have been better to have the grass behind the tub out of focus to isolate the flowers better.
Chell says: Colourful image, sharpness of the grass in front of the barrel I find a little distracting, had that be blurred I would be more focussed on the actual flowers, nevertheless a good image

Sweet Tooth - WINNER
Mark says: The composition of the two bowls is very good, but a little too tightly cropped on the left side. I would have preferred to be all of the edge of the bowl.
Wonder who got the eat the sweets! Good effort.
Chell says: I like this, very clear, crisp, image, lots of detail and certainly in keeping with this months theme, well thought out, could do very well! Makes you want to eat them!

Bradgate Trees
Mark says: The colourful tree is well positioned in the frame, and the overhanging branches top left fill in the otherwise bland sky. The contrast is a little flat.
Chell says: colour of the trees is nice, the two signs in the bottom of the picture are a little distracting, this image may have looked better in black and white with the main tree in colour?

Bradgate Trees 2
Mark says: Almost the same can be said of this shot s the previous. It’s a little flat. Shame would have been a better shot with some sunlight on the trees.
Chell says: Again a nice selection of colourful trees, the red tree might have been better more red, a tighter crop to the right would have eliminated the tree which seems to be more in focus than the focal point is, sky is a bit blown out maybe a tighter crop could have sorted that too?

Floral Welcome
Mark says: A very similar idea to a previous entry, but this one works better for me. Don’t know why as it is still very central, but probably because the view point is lower and the background is less distracting.
It’s also brighter and as a result more colourful
Chell says: Nice focal point, very sharp and clear, the clouds are quite over exposed, but my eye is drawn instantly to the flowers. A good image.

Yellow Bird
Mark says: This is my second entry. The background is a little busy but it is blurred out by the small depth of field. The bird is sat on the thirds and I like the bush to the right.
Chell says: Can’t make up my mind whether I like this one or not, I think the brick background although blurred takes some of the emphasis off the bird, fine detail on both the bird and the nest is very well captured, well done.

Ludlow Bridge
Mark says: Generally a good shot, that would have benefited from a frame to define the limits of the sky, which is very washed out. I like the bridge running into the picture and the trees have some sun on them with has lifted the colours. The green grass in the foreground is a little land, but the eye doesn’t seem to stay too long.
Chell says: No comment

A touch of Autumn - THIRD
Mark says: Interesting viewpoint of the trees canopy. The trunk is a little too central, being off to one side might have improved the shot. It’s a shame the sky is not a rich blue to set off the leaves better.
Chell says: No comment

All yelows
Mark says: Very colourful, spring shot. I think it would have benefited from the top being cropped to remove the background completely. Good depth of field, arguably lacking a single focal point.
Chell says: Lovely clear, bright image, detail on the daffodils has been captured well, a nice ‘warming’ feel about this picture.

Wear it Pink
Mark says: Very sharp shot of the rose, angle of the light is very good, giving depth and form to the flower. Top right has a dark area which is slightly distracting to an otherwise good shot.
Chell says: Very well captured, nice detail of the petals, maybe sharpened a little too much round the bottom right side, and a tighter crop at the bottom would have eliminated the ‘pink stripe’
