Hazy Bay
Mark says: This is a shot that has been cropped heavily – but has ended up with the horizon around ½ way up the image. I would have preferred it to sit more on the thirds. The sky is nicely exposed, but the foreground is a little dark.
Chell says: A nice shot overall, I would have liked it to be a little lighter so as to capture more of the features of the sea, I find my eye drawn towards the wave in the centre.

Stony Beach
Mark says: The eye is nicely drawn down the beach to the sea. The sky has some detail left in it which helps the shot greatly. I like the extended depth of field, although I not sure the focal point is near enough to have fully benefited from the hyper focal distance that an aperture of f10 at 18mm gives, as the foreground is just a little to out of focus. There is a red stone or brick on the one third, which keeps catching my eye, but it is just out of focus. If that had been in focus the shot would have been excellent rather than good.
Chell says: I like this unusual shot the low down angle really works, a lovely sky and my eye is drawn out to sea,……………….

Stormy Shores
Mark says: Nicely split into three along the thirds, but the buildings are a little dark, the exposure having been overly influenced by the sky.
Chell says: Lovely, crisp and sharp, nicely composed, give the feeling of a crisp autumn morning. Nice shot

Fraggle Rock
Mark says: Another sea shot – you’d have thought it was summer!
Exposure of the sea and sky is good, but the rock, which is sat on the thirds is a little too much in the shadow. (I’ll change that – I’ve just adjusted my monitor and the rock is much better.)
I do like it though.
Chell says: Again another nice crisp image, detail in the rocks at the front of the picture, nicely captured, would of like to have seen a little more to the left, with more of the sea going round the headland as I keep wanting to look to see whats round there.

Bulrushes
Mark says: Good shot, which is technically excellent, very sharp and the subject is very well isolated against the background. The three leaves at the top of the shot appear to have been a little too tightly cropped; I would have liked to have seen the ends if possible
Chell says: Nice clear image, can see the detail on the leaves, I find the bright spot at the bottom a little distracting and I would of possibly got rid of the one brown leaf to the right hand side, otherwise good effort

Blue Morpho Butterfly
Mark says: Another excellent shot. Very well exposed, with lots of detail in the yellow flower and the butterfly.
Chell says: Nice crisp clear image of the butterfly, although I find myself looking at the base of its wing as it looks sharper there.

Bullocks!
Mark says: Almost an abstract of the bullocks heads. The one bullock on the right being the anchor to the shot. Well done.
Chell says: An interesting shot, the white on the calf on the right balances out the picture adding ‘colour’ to it, might have been nice to see the shot from a little further back to see what the bullocks were looking at!

Bliss
Mark says: The title says it all! The lady is obviously enjoying the cigarette. The background is not quite dark enough to loose the distractions of what looks like a sauce bottle amongst others!
A bit too central in the frame, would have worked better with more negative space to the left hand side and cropped more off the left.
Chell says: Interesting image of somebody enjoying a cigarette would of liked to of seen a more interesting background, a bar for example, and the overall photo a little sharper

Seen thro Water
Mark says: I love this shot. Exposure is perfect. You could argue that the subject should have been a little straighter in the frame, but it doesn’t seem to matter to me.
Good effort
Chell says: I love this idea, works really well, very well captured, the detail of the water at the top of the picture is good, a creative shot, should do well.

Strange Brew - SECOND
Mark says: An interesting shot, that doesn’t really work for me. Lighting is a little hard. And it’s a little too tightly cropped and central.
Chell says: ewwwwww maggots lol I do like this shot tho, very clear and the black background works well, the detail on the maggots has been captured well, almost look as if they are real and not a photo! Just glad they are not crawling from the holes in my speakers!

Harbour

Mark says: Nicely composed shot, with the light coming in from the right. The bollard is positioned perfectly and the whole shot is in focus. The background is placing the location in Scotland very well.
Care must be taken with an aperture of f16 as diffraction can occur which can soften the image.
Good shot.

Chell says: Detail of the rope around the mooring point captured well, an interesting sky helps with the appeal of this photo.

Waterfall
Mark says: A very good idea that has worked on many levels, It lacks a little punch, probably due to the lighting conditions that look less than ideal. Would be well worth trying again when the lighting is better and perhaps try early morning or late evening to get a rich golden glow to the shot. I would then use a slow shutter speed and a small aperture to increase the depth of field.
Chell says: a tighter crop would have eliminated the eye catching umbrella to the right, the water could be a little sharper, maybe taken at a lower view point would give a better perspective/more interesting view

Duck in need of a brolly
Mark says: Duck is a little small in the frame and is a little too dark. The title indicates that it is raining – but I can’t really see any evidence. Its also too central. Sorry, doesn’t work for me.
Chell says: Duck placed in the middle of the image, may have been better placed on one of the thirds so that we can see where the duck is heading to, giving more sense of direction to the image.

Halloween
Mark says: One of mine. Its unfortunate that there is a post growing out of his head, which in hindsight I may have been able to lessen the effect by recomposing.
Chell Says:
Chell says: Very clear crisp shot, the left of the collar is a little over exposed but otherwise very good

Steam on a wet day - WINNER
Mark says: Good shot of the loco – perhaps would have benefited from either a wider shot to give some room for the engine to move into, or recomposed to loose some of the platform.
I like the flowers at the top of the shot, hiding the rather dull sky.
Chell says: not a great fan of trains but this I like, I think the flowers over the top of the picture add a delicate touch to a very ‘metal’ picture, more steam from the funnel could of made this better but overall a nice photo

Tree Line
Mark says: Another shot that I like a lot. A lower view point might have helped as well as the first tree being fully in the frame. The road disappearing into the distance adds some mystery in what looks to me like somewhere in France.
Good effort.
Chell says: Looks very bright and contrasty, My eye is drawn along the road, could be more saturated to boost the colours.

Road to Nowhere
Mark says: This one doesn’t work quite so well as the previous one. The road is too central. Exposure is good though.
Chell says: Nicely exposed, nice green tones, could have cloned out the white pole to the left of the road, otherwise not bad.

Playing with Swords
Mark says: Good shot. The movement of the sword is well captured as well as the control of the man wielding it. Well composed too.
Chell says: would of liked to of seen more detail, ‘creases’ to the clothing for example, the background ruins this shot really (where did they get those curtains from), sword would have been better if it was captured a little faster so it is sharper.

Any more for the Skylark .... Whitby.
Mark says: Good composition with the angle drawing the eye along the boat. Nice and bright, reminding us of the summer just gone.
Good effort.
Chell says: Nice bright colourful picture, an interesting sky, maybe would have cropped a little off the left hand side to remove the man sitting on the rail.

Oh Deer!
Mark says: Nice to see the deer – but you do wonder if it is going to walk into the tree! Lacks a little punch – perhaps a little USM would have taken off the slight haze. (20/50/0 is a useful setting to try.)
Little too central – my eye keeps looking at the tree and not the deer!
Chell says: My eye Is drawn to the blurred brambles to the left of the deer, the deer itself is very sharp, better be careful what I put here tho! hehe

Turret
Mark says: Well exposed for both the sky and castle – although its time like these that you wish you had a tilt and shift lens! Again seems to have a slight haze.
Composition is good, with the eye being brought back to the turret.
Good effort.
Chell says: A little too much light from the left hand side, nice detail captured in the walls of the turret it just feels like I want to see more of the castle.

Misty Green
Mark says: Pleasant enough shot, but doesn’t really grab me too much. I like the trees in the background being blurred, but the sky is a little too bland.
Chell says: a real wintry shot sits nicely on the thirds, would of perhaps cloned out the twig that’s standing up in the middle of the shot otherwise very moody!

The Dungeon
Mark says: One of mine. This was taken at Kenilworth Castle – and was actually suspended from the ceiling. Taken in a mix of natural light and spot lights. It was a shame about the netting that runs up from the neck to the upper right.
Chell says: The ropes on the wall behind the skeleton are a little distracting and end at the skeletons neck, nice lighting, very sharp image.

Ludlow
Mark says: Nice and bright shot, but would have benefited from a boarder to help lift it from the background. The sky just has some detail left, which might have been able to have been recovered a little more.
Chell says: No comment

JC in Bath
Mark says: Good portrait, well composed with enough space for him to look into. Shame about the object on the right. Subject is isolated perfectly from the background, with enough depth of field to keep the subject sharp
Chell says: Nice portrait, would of maybe cloned out the blurred object in the bottom right, otherwise a good shot

Growing Wild
Mark says: Another shot that I like! The mushrooms are well exposed and are located in the frame in a good position.
Good effort.
Chell says: Pity the back edge of the top fungi is not all in focus, nicely detailed, well spotted!

Let there be Light - THIRD
Mark says: The sky is generally well exposed, but the foreground looks a little underexposed – you can see that the sun is illuminating it, but the image does not portray it.
Chell says: No comment
