| Evening
Light |
| Mark says: First impressions are that I like this shot. My eye is drawn first to the large tower on the left, then across to the sunlit building and then around the picture. It has some nice detail in the sky, although some noise is evident. |
| Dave says: Good image with lovely warm lightning, a late summer evening feel. I'd like to see more of the building and less of the sky. |
| Let
there be light |
| Mark says: Not sure about this one. I don’t like the large expanse of black on the right hand side, I think because its not balanced with black on the left. The cross is also leaning backwards, which doesn’t look right to me. |
| Dave says: A very dramatic stuff!. I find the cross very good but the structure it stands upon is a little distracting. Great sky. |
| Glacier |
| Mark says: I like the road/path leading the eye into the shot, but the picture looks overall to be a little dull and lacking punch. Possibly because I’m finding my eye drawn to the outcrop of rock on the left hand third which is in deep shadow. |
| Dave says: One of mine |
| Zillertal
snow scene |
| Mark says: Again, this shot looks to be a little underexposed, and as a result is slightly flat and lacking contrast. Wish I was there though! |
| Dave says: One of mine |
| Waiting
for dinner |
| Mark says: This is one of mine. So no comment. |
| Dave says: Immpressive macro, beautiful subject, I love spiders! Overall, a little bit too light but otherwise very good. |
| St
Marys |
| Mark says:
I’m not a fan of this type of treatment, so I’ll ignore that!
The lighthouse is a little too central for me, it would have worked better
over to the right. I’m not too sure the horizon is perfectly level, but I’ll not argue it isn’t. |
| Dave says: A nice pastel feel to this, but the main subject is a little bit central. With strongly reworked colours it is always a bit of a gamble. |
| Hammond
Bay |
| Mark says: The level of detail in this shot is excellent and both the sky and rocks are very well exposed. It has a lovely 3D quality about it too. Very well done. |
| Dave says: Lovevly texture in the rocks and the sea, the coast line in the background is dramatic and I would have liked to see more of it but may have meant getting your feet wet. |
| The
age of steam |
| Mark says:
Nice
diagonals through the shot, leading the viewer down the tracks and towards
the some and presumably engine. I am left wondering what the loco is. I like the black and white conversion too. Works very well. |
| Dave says: Very strong lines in this and the atmosphere is great. Black and white works very well in this shot. |
| Mr
Darcy |
| Mark says:
On many levels I do like this shot. I like the black and white. I like
the low key background, and I like the sense of mystery with no head on
the body. What bothers me on the other hand, is the feeling that he is leaning backwards slightly and it looks a bit awkward. But overall, a good effort. |
| Dave says: |
| Stairs |
| Mark says:
An interesting shot. Its not quite straight as the lower half landing
is not parallel to the edge of the frame. I would also like to see a very slightly tighter crop to balance the two landings size. Nice bright colours, although the white flare is a shame on the upper right. |
| Dave says: Lovely colours and great lines! However, the image feels off balance to me. |
| Birds
of Prey - SECOND |
| Mark says: My other one. No comment. |
| Dave says: Stunning action shot, great sharp focus, really, really strong image! If I had to say anything critical I'd have cloned out the hand bottom left. |
| Circuit
City |
| Mark says:
I like this one. Its unusual but at the same time as the title suggests
familiar. The has good depth of field that extends from the from of the
shot almost to the back. I like the “Road” coming in from
bottom left. Good effort. |
| Dave says: Interesting and very imaginative! I like it, it works well. |

| On
a wing & a prayer |
| Mark says: Another super shot. I would have preferred the helicopter to have been just slightly higher in the frame, but I would prefer it there than not as it makes it the two men appearing to look at it |
| Dave says: A good shot, i love the way the helicopter adds action to a stunning portrait. |
| Somewhere
in the Lakes |
| Mark says: I recognise this place! This was taken at our last meet from a bridge. The sky is a little washed out, but the rest of the shot is quite nicely exposed. It does lack a focal point unfortunately |
| Dave says: A little too light high up and a little too dark down low but great shadows and nice reflections in the water. |
| Comox
Glacier |
| Mark says: Another snow shot! Also looking a little dark. Wonder if its my monitor? Anyway, I like the sky, very moody and the horizon is nicely on the thirds. |
| Dave says: Beautiful shot, I am a great fan of glaciers! Lovely dramatic sky and the way the ice sweaps round at the bottom of the shot is stunning. |
| Golden
Gate Bridge |
| Mark says:
I like the way the road disappears over the bridge and the way the towers
recede into the distance. Not an angle I have seen before, and it generally
works. I like it. Good effort |
| Dave says: A great shot of this famous bridge, you don't see it often from this angle and that makes this shot interesting to me. |
| View
from Alcatraz |
| Mark says: Another good shot, one that I like a lot although it might have been better a little earlier in the day before the haze built up, but that is not always possible! Good coloured sky. |
| Dave says: What an impressive skyline! Lovely shot, how long were you in for? |
| Filey
Seafront |
| Mark says:
The photog either has very long arms or there is a bit of something to
stand on over the water! I wonder if a very slightly higher shot to get more sky in would have been possible? But that besides, its very well exposed with plenty of detail in the foreground as well as the sky. The string of lights cuts it a little bit, but you can hardly ask for them to be turned off. The sea is picking up the sunlight nicely to give an interest to the otherwise expanse of sea. |
| Dave says: I really like this one, there is a lovely warm reflection in the water and the sea wall is great. Draws the eye in well, the chain of lights is sadly a little bit distracting. |
| Aint
life hard....... |
| Mark says:
This is one of those shots, that is in need of a defined boarder. The
sky is just too pale against the forum white background. Looking at the horse it looks as if from the shape of its back that it did have a hard life once! I would have liked to have seen the horse slightly higher up the frame onto the intersecting thirds to make it a bit stronger. The depth of field would have been nicer if it were a little shorted, but that is more difficult when using cameras with small sensors. Good exposure overall, though the horse is very slightly burnt out. |
| Dave says: Lovely English country scene, the sky is a bit featureless but otherwise pleasant image. |
| The
Gallery |
| Mark says: I like this shot. It would have been even better without the third person in the background. Possibly ½ a stop under exposed, but probably thrown by the red boarder. |
| Dave says: I really like the colours and the symmetry, the people, it's all good, but I would have cropped the ceiling out, it would balance the shot much better. |
| Mr
Pipples |
| Mark says: The face is a little too central – could have been cropped in from the right slightly. The background is a bit distracting too. |
| Dave says: Bless! What a beautiful portrait, he is very sweet. |
| Filey
Brigg at Sunset |
| Mark says:
Nice diagonals, lovely colour of the low sunlight. Could have been cropped
slightly lower to fill the frame with the main subject. Good effort. |
| Dave says: The foreground is a little bit distracting and out of focus, but otherwise a good shot with lovely seaspray. |
| The
Lift - THIRD |
| Mark says: Fun shot that has worked really well! Just goes to show what you can do with your phone! |
| Dave says: Very well spotted, nice effect in the multiple reflections and the way they appear to bend. |
| Haweswater
Dawn |
| Mark says: Nice shot of the sunrise. The foreground is a little dark for me. I would have liked to see some detail around the lake and hills. |
| Dave says: Lovely warm colours and very interesting horizon, a great overall feel to the shot. |
| Windermere
Jetty |
| Mark says: Classic shot of the Jetty. Shame the sky is a little lacking. Hasn’t really worked for me. Sorry. |
| Dave says: A great spot to take a photo from, well spotted, but the sky is a little plain and featureless, otherwise pleasant scene. |
| Early
morning mist over Wolfescote Dale ... Peak District. - WINNER |
| Mark says: This is a stunning shot. The mist has really made this shot stand out. I really like this one. Very well done. |
| Dave says: I really love this one, it's a typical English country scene and it makes me homesick. |
| Somewhere
under the mist is Hartington ... Peak District. |
| Mark says:
Another Stunning shot, not quite as good as the first, but it runs it
close. I like the way the road disappears. Not sure about the telegraph
pole, it’s a bit too much the focal point. Good effort. |
| Dave says: Another nice misty shot but this one does not really quite work for me. I find the pole in the foreground too distracting. |
