What's in the Barn?
EAT YOUR HEARTS OUT ON THIS ONE
This is unbelievable !!!!!!

A New York man retired. He wanted to use his retirement
money wisely, so it would last, and decided to buy a home and a few acres in Portugal .

The modest farmhouse had been vacant for 15 years.; the owner and wife both had died, and there were no heirs.

The house was sold to pay taxes. There had been several lookers, but the large barn had steel doors, and they had been welded shut.

Nobody wanted to go to the extra expense to see what was in the barn, and it wasn't complimentary to the property anyway......so, nobody made an offer on the place.

The New York guy bought it at just over half of the property's worth, moved in, and set about to tear in to the barn.......curiosity was killing him.

So, he and his wife bought a generator, and a couple of grinders.......and cut thru the welds.

What was in the barn...............?

The Barn

The doors were welded shut, but an angle grinder took care of that.

Right. We know us British are excellent at inventing stuff (most modern things..you name it, we invented it!), but we have a habit of letting it be exploited, improved, nicked, marketed by others....

So, as the inventors in modern day photography (and I don't include Daguerre as his process only made one offs....) You have the unlimited finances to create a camera maker that is British!
But, how would you start? what would you do? How would you rob sales from the established (Japanese, Korean, German) brands? What would your USP be? where would you specialise?

As creator of the thread, I will start.

Firstly, we need a name. so how about Wifota? It is the first two letters of the name of William Fox Talbot, our exhalted inventor of photography. It could also be a variation of "We Photo"

Next, DSLR. Obviously we are new, so we will have to utilise a sensor from a 3rd party. But this is not a bad idea as so many use either Sony, Kodak or Samsung as their sensors (Canon are the exception). So why not use the current 24MP FF sensor from sony. No need to make our own.
Processing. Well we still have expertise in this field, so the boffins in the Cambridge area can produce a processor that we need, will hi-speed buffer to do RAW files at 10FPS+ until the card is full....
Mount. Well as there are so many mounts and so many lenses. why not let the established brand make the lenses and we can produce an adaptor to fit to the camera. I say adapter, its more like a module that has the mount and contacts for all features like screw focus, motor focus, full AF, all the lens contacts and aperture control. Nikon? put nikon module on, Pentax? same. Canon? no problem...... What a USP that would be. Just buy each of the 7 modules (Canon, Nikon,Pentax,Sony, Olympus, Leica and contax. and you can have every lens ever made....

Second, you repeat for an APS-C model, although the Nikon and Pentax module would be unchanged, same could be said for Canon (to an extent)

Third. A full frame compact with a fast (say F2) 50mm lens.
A second FF compact with a 24-120mm zoom. That would be enough to blow the other compacts away, if only from an IQ point of View...And Pros would love them. And I bet either of these would be cheaper than the Leica X1....

Finally Medium format. Again have modules that are made for all medium format mounts (Bronica, Pentax, Leaf, Hasselblad, Mamaya etc). Yet, again use a sensor from Kodak or Phase one....

In time you will be able to produce your own mount (via a module) and make your own great lenses.

There you go, my fantasy company, enough to take over the world.......

What would you do?

Was thinking about a new section for the forum - one on photoshop / lightroom / elements etc... tips and tricks.

Would this be of interest to anyone?

I could contribute some, but I'm sure some of you know some good stuff.

It could include little things like using cntl+J (Command+J) to duplicate a layer..

What do you think?

Would anyone like to start it off if I built a forum for it.
