I am wondering about brollys. I currently have a small silver one which is okay with the flash gun, but for head and shoulders is too small.
So what is the ideal for head and shoulder shots with a flashgun?
There are sizes from 85cm to 109cm.
All will fit my flash adapter on a stand, but would the largest be too much for the flashgun and go smaller, or will any be okay.
I am looking at ones with silver and diffuse.

So, all who has one and what is the optimum for a flashgun.

I have one but not used it with a flashgun. Only with the strobe heads

Bigger is usually better though. Calumet do some cheaper ones, which are OK quality.

Brolleys are no as good as soft boxes as they can't be controlled as well.

But whether you can get soft boxes for a flashgun, I have no idea!

I have softboxes for the studio lights, however this is for putting on the flashgun adapter, on the light stand and out in the field where no mains is around.

I have found one on calumet for £25 so might go for that.

If you want a brolley, try a shoot through, as the light will be softer,

oh and a good sand bag to fill with dirt on site as brolleys do like the wind...................

i can just see offers now chasing it down maple highstreet

You can get softbox for flashgun.

Ian Jardine has one, but they are rather unwieldly. We did try to use it at a wedding, but gave up in the end. You needed a wireless trigger to make it go.

The flash was on a stick, with the softbox on top - the idea was that the flash was hand held separate from the camera.

I'm sure you could put the whole lot on a stand.

Diane is right....you can get soft boxes for the flash. Various manufacturers make them but I have gone with the Lastolite Ezybox and highly recommend them.

Two sizes are available; 38cm x 38cm and the larger 60cm x 60 cm.

Diane is right, the larger one can be a bit unwieldy particularly if outside in the wind, but I am pleased with the overall soft lighting they produce. Easy to mount on a stand you can also use a separate 'pole' which, if you have an assistant, makes it very mobile. They are triggered either by the IR on board flash or wirelessly.

Have a look here http://www.lastolite...howreviews=true

If you want to borrow mine for a trial let me know - I'm back in the UK next Tuesday.
